Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Report Viewer plugin for Moodle?#
Report Viewer is a Moodle LMS plugin developed by EssingtonITS that transforms learner analytics into clear, interactive, and professionally branded reports. It automatically generates reports on a schedule, presents them through ApexCharts-powered dashboards, and distributes them to internal and external stakeholders via secure email links, all without leaving Moodle or requiring manual effort.
How are reports generated and distributed?#
Reports are generated automatically by the plugin according to schedules configured by a Moodle administrator. Once generated, they are distributed via secure email links to a predefined list of recipients which can include people who do not have a Moodle account. Administrators manage all schedules, delivery lists, and access settings from within Moodle's Site Administration area.
Can reports be shared with people outside of Moodle?#
Yes. Report Viewer supports both private and public sharing, with flexible visibility settings per report. Secure email links can be sent to any email address internal staff, senior leaders, or external stakeholders such as funders or partners without requiring them to have a Moodle account. Reports can also be downloaded as PDF files for further distribution or archiving.
Can we apply our organisation's branding to reports?#
Yes. Report Viewer includes full branding customisation, allowing administrators to upload an organisational logo and configure primary and secondary colours through the Report Viewer Settings panel. Branding is applied consistently across all reports, giving every output a professional and on-brand appearance without any design or development work.
What Moodle version and technical requirements does Report Viewer need?#
Report Viewer requires Moodle 4.5 or later, PHP 8.0+, and a compatible database (MySQL 8.0+, MariaDB 10.2+, or PostgreSQL 13+). Moodle's standard logstore must be enabled and writing. In the vast majority of Moodle environments these requirements are already met.
Installation and initial configuration is handled by the EssingtonITS team as part of the onboarding process no technical setup is required on your side.
